Measles
With the widespread use of childhood vaccines, measles is now rarely seen. In the past, measles produced a moderately severe illness with a high temperature and a rash which appeared on the face and body. The rash is not usually troublesome and disappears as the illness improves.

German measles (rubella)
Vaccines have virtually eliminated German measles (rubella), which generally produces an insignificant illness. German measles does, however, have major consequences in pregnant women, causing especially deafness in newborn children. The disease usually begins with a slight fever and a mild rash on the face and body, which requires no specific treatment. Anyone with German measles should be kept away from pregnant women who may not have had this illness and who, therefore, may not be immune to it.

Roseola infantum
Roseola infantum is an illness similar to measles which occurs in children between two and five years old. It is caused by a herpes virus and differs from measles in that the rash appears when the child's fever has disappeared. It requires no treatment.
