EVENING PRIMROSE OIL: COSMETIC USES - SKIN, EYES, HAIR, NAILS, AND BUST

Evening primrose oil is good for your skin. It helps make the skin smooth, counteracts dryness, protects against water loss, and may help slow down the ageing process.
The very first experiments on rats who were deprived of essential fatty acids showed what could happen to the skin and hair. Sebum (grease) production increased, sebaceous gland size increased, and the skin broke out in red, itchy patches. The hair began to fall out, and the scalp to flake.
This knowledge led to the development of evening primrose oil as a treatment for eczema. But new research now shows that evening primrose oil can also/ help dry skin sufferers. There have been high hopes that evening primrose oil might help both acne and psoriasis, but this has not been proven as yet.
A dermatological test in Cardiff established that, with a dosage of eight to 12 capsules a day, there was a measurable improvement in skin roughness.
This has recently been confirmed in Germany. Using a sophisticated electronic instrument for measuring skin smoothness, Dr H. Nissen of the University of Bonn showed that Efamol, taken either by mouth or applied to the skin, could make the skin smoother and could also increase the moisture content of the skin. These are claims that are often made for skin preparations. But this is the first time that there is solid scientific evidence to back up such a claim.
