EXPERIENCING MENIERE'S DISEASE: ANGER
Anyone who expresses anger is expressing a dissatisfaction of a personal need and the anger is expressed both internally and externally. Feelings may fluctuate between resentment of others and frustration with yourself. You have admitted the reality of your condition to yourself but you have not accepted it.
You may express your anger by thinking "Why me? What have I done to deserve this? It's not fair". You may be difficult to live with, oversensitive and irritable. You may want to blame others - doctors for not finding answers or a magic cure, and family and friends for letting Meniere's have such an impact on your life. You become indignant when people suggest an alternative approach or coping strategy.
As the difficulties with hearing and balance persist and increase, you begin to lose faith in the ability of others to help. It can be a difficult time - you need understanding and caring support but you still don't want to admit to others that you have problems. You falsely minimize the difficulties you are experiencing and the impact Meniere's is having on your life. You may be so overwhelmed and confused that you cannot express what you need from others.
This is the time when professional and family support is vital. Guidance, direction, encouragement and referrals to avenues of assistance with the adjustment process are important. You need help to make decisions which will open doors to new experiences.
