HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR DOCTOR: NUELIN, OAT BRAN
Nuelin
Nuelin is a sister chemical to caffeine. It is used in the treatment of asthma, where it causes constricted airways to dilate. Taking a Nuelin Slow release preparation twice a day has similar effects to drinking 20 cups of coffee. It follows that the side effects of Nuelin, are the side effects of caffeine. Nuelin causes insomnia, gastric disturbances and sometimes a slight tremor.
From time to time debate rages as to which group of bronchodilators are preferable. Which is the better drug: Adrenaline analogues like Ventolin and Bricanyl or a bronchodilator like Nuelin? On balance each group of drugs has harmful potential. Either may be used; but close medical supervision is advisable. Used in combination Nuelin and Adrenaline analogues have greater efficacy and more side effects than either modality alone.
Oat Bran
The bran from oatmeal is reported to have wondrous anti cholesterol effects. This may or may not be case. Scientific opinion is still divided on the issue. What can be said of oat bran is that it is more palatable than the unprocessed bran from wheat meal. Therefore it is a desirable addition to breakfast cereal in the battle against constipation. In serious cases of constipation, five table spoons of oat bran can be added to the breakfast cereal with little or no untoward side effects.
