MEASLES: IMMUNIZATION AND HOME REMEDIES
Measles is a serious and completely preventable disease of childhood. In spite of the Measles vaccine, outbreaks occur regularly amongst school age children. The break out of Measles in the face of an active public immunization program would not be so bad if it wasn't for Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis which affects a small proportion of children with the Measles. S.S.P.E. causes a slow and pitiful death due to massive destruction of the brain's central nervous tissues.
The 1990-91 New South Wales Measles epidemic affected a high proportion of children already vaccinated against the Measles. The reason immunity failed to develop in these children has not been identified. Some experts argue that the vaccine was accidentally inactivated through freezing in doctors poorly regulated surgery refrigerators. What ever the cause, 40 per cent of children with a history of Measles immunization developed the disease.
Home Remedies
Don't have your children vaccinated against the measles once. Have them vaccinated twice. A second booster can be delivered prior to the beginning of school. The Measles begin with all the symptoms of a cold. Fever, runny nose and a sore throat predominate. After a few days the classical rash appears. Children can go back to school when the rash disappears.
