Metamucil
Metamucil is a gel like high fibre supplement. Taken before meals it fills the stomach resulting in a reduced food intake. This effect is useful for those desirous of regular bowel function and weight control. High fibre gels also have the ability to reduce the serum cholesterol. The only disadvantage of these and all the other forms of high fibre supplements is the cost. It is hard to believe that saw dust and water can be such an expensive commodity.
Methadone
Methadone is a potent long acting narcotic. It is used to replace heroine in the treatment of illicit addiction. In Queensland the state runs a Methadone program for heroin addicts. Because the drug lasts a long time in the blood it is useful in the management of severe pain. Microlut is a brand name for the progesterone only pill. Mini-pills as such are not a reliable form of contraception. They are taken by women who require a low dose of oral contraception, but don't mind getting pregnant. They work well when taken by women who breast feed and they are a useful back up if women choose to use condoms or diaphragms as a means of conception control.
