SKIN INFECTIONS
Two bacterial species are responsible for most infections of the skin. They are the Strepto and the Staphylococci. Streptococci spread rapidly under the skin producing a red, painful area of spreading indurations. Cellulitis is the term used by doctors to describe this clinical picture and when the Streptococci invade and begin to spread rapidly along the lymphatic tracks these spreading red streaks are known as Lymphangitis.
Staphylococci also cause Cellulitis and Lymphangitis; however these organisms are more likely to cause pus producing abnormalities such, as boils, carbuncles and abscesses. In most cases Cellulitis and Lymphangitis respond to high doses of penicillin. In the case of Staphylococcus, Flucloxacillin is the antibiotic of choice and in severe cases, patients receive their antibiotics through intravenous drip lines in a hospital.
Home Remedies
There is no appropriate home remedy for Cellulitis and Lymphangitis. If septicemia and death are to be prevented the immediate application of appropriate antibiotic therapy is urgently indicated.
