HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR DOCTOR: SWIMMERS EAR, TEETHING
Swimmers Ear
Swimmers Ear is an infection of the outer ear canal with bacteria acquired from the water. Often these bacteria are Pseudomonades and they can be identified by their production of copious quantities of yellow, greenish pus.
Home Remedies
Keep home swimming pools well chlorinated. Avoid small pools where children are learning to swim. They often defecate or urinate in the water. Both Aquaear and Vosol are useful instillations to use in the ear after swimming or taking a shower. These organic solutions displace the water and reduce the possibility of recurrent infection.
Teething
Teething is a painful time in a baby’s life; but never the cause of a fever. If a teething child has a temperature, the cause is an infection and the source of that infection should be searched for.
There is no set time for the eruption of babies’ teeth. Some infants are born with a full complement. Others don't get teeth until they are three years old.
Home Remedies
Many mothers use Bonjela or SM33 when they think that their babies’ teeth are hurting. The habit is probably a harmless one and Paracetamol is a safe effective alternative.
