Testosterone is the sex hormone responsible for the human males’ secondary sexual characteristics. It also underpins the male's sex drive. Many of these men frequently report that their ability to achieve and sustain erections is significantly improved.
The down side of testosterone supplementation is its multiple side effects in high doses. In both athletes and post menopausal men there is an increase in aggression and argumentation. Testosterone in high doses also irritates the liver and alters the body’s cholesterol balance introducing a higher risk of cardiovascular disease. Elderly men especially need to worry about their prostates as testosterone hastens the occurrence of enlargement, obstruction and acute urinary retention. The virulence of cancer of the prostate may also be enhanced.
