Vitamin B13
Orotic Acid.
Functions
Essential for the biosynthesis of nucleic acid. Vital for the regenerative processes in cells. Considered to be of special value in the treatment of multiple sclerosis.
Deficiency symptoms
Deficiencies are not known, but it is believed that they may lead to liver disorders and cell degeneration and premature aging; also overall degeneration as in multiple sclerosis.
Natural sources
Present in whey portion of milk, particularly in soured milk.
Vitamin B15
Pangamic acid. Calcium Pangamate, Measured in milligrams (mg.).
Functions
Increases the body's tolerance to hypoxia, or insufficient oxygen supply to the tissues and cells. Helps to regulate fat metabolism, stimulates the glandular and nervous systems and is helpful in the treatment of heart disease, angina, elevated blood cholesterol, impaired circulation and premature aging. Can help protect against the damaging effect of carbon monoxide poisoning. B15 is also a good detoxicant.
Deficiency symptoms
May cause diminished oxygenation of cells, hypoxia, heart disease, glandular and nervous disorders.
Natural sources
Whole grains, seeds and nuts; whole brown rice.
MDR (minimum daily requirement):
Not known. Usual therapeutic dose: 100 mg. a day, 50 mg. in the morning before breakfast, and 50 mg. at night. Used extensively in medical practice in Russia and some other countries, but not in the United States.
