WARFARIN
Warfarin was first isolated from mouldy cattle food that caused cattle and other livestock to bleed to death. As an oral form of anticoagulant, Warfarin has found an enduring place in the repertoire of modern medicine.
It is not surprising the most common adverse side effect of Warfarin is bleeding. There is a lot of individual variation as to what constitutes a therapeutic dose of Warfarin and patients taking the drug must have their bleeding times closely monitored by attending medical practitioners.
Warfarin also interferes with the way in which many medications work; and many other medications in turn interfere with the way that Warfarin works. If a drug that does interfere with Warfarin is obliged to be taken even closer attention to the bleeding time is warranted. The reverse holds true if Warfarin is added to preexisting drug regimens. All drugs will have to be examined in the light of enhancement or reduction of both therapeutic and unwanted adverse effects.
