HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR DOCTOR: YOGHURT AND ZINC
Yoghurt
Acidophilus Yoghurt is well known for its capacity to ameliorate post antibiotic diarrhea. There is also a staunch group of women who advocate Acidophilus douches in the presence of a vaginal Candida overgrowth. The Acidophilus bacteria are thought to act like the bodies Lactobacilli. These micro organisms help maintain the acidity of the bowel and the vagina at levels which discourage the overgrowth of Candida. Microbiologists point out that the bodies naturally occurring Lactobacilli, are not the same as the Acidophilus in yoghurt. These experts either doubt the efficacy of Acidophilus bacteria in yoghurt; or they do not believe that Acidophilus Yoghurt has any therapeutic advantage at all.
Zinc
For many years zinc has been known to have mysterious healing properties. Zinc was mixed with both creams and ointments in the treatment of dermatitis before the introduction of the potent steroid hormones. Zinc capsules are prescribed by urologists to help contain enlargement of the prostate before surgery becomes necessary and another benefit claimed by the devotees of zinc capsules is the reduction of vertigo in people suffering from Meniere's Disease. One Brisbane man even reported a reversal of the greying of his hair after taking a course of zinc tablets for the treatment of white marks under his finger nails.
